Infants
Infants learn best through active exploration, sensory experiences and responsive interactions with caregivers. They absorb information by playing, observing the world and engaging in "serve and return" communication, where others mimic their sounds, gestures and facial expressions building a foundation for language.
Through play babies and infants build both gross and fine motor skills, begin to understand cause and effect and figure out how their bodies move in their environment.
Touching different textures, listening to various sounds, looking at faces and bringing non-choking hazards to their mouths are all vital learning tools.
Toddlers & Preschoolers
Toddlers also learn best through active, play-based exploration.
Using all their senses, they learn by watching others, repeating actions and interacting with their environment.
Hands-on experiences help them build brain connections, develop motor skills and understand cause and effect. Play is a toddlers "work". They make sense of the world by using their imaginations, building spatial awareness and testing limits.
Preschoolers also learn best through play-based hands-on experiences.
Children thrive when they can actively explore their environment using their senses, make choices about their activities and interact with peers. Through imaginative, sensory and constructive play, children develop critical cognitive, social and emotional skills. They learn best when they can touch, build, manipulate objects (like blocks and playdough) and experiment directly with their surroundings. Preschoolers learn a vast amount by collaborating, negotiating and communicating with their peers. Consistent daily routines provide a safe, predictable environment, while stories and song significantly enhance language, literacy and listening skills.
