A Bit About Me . . . . .

I have worked in the early childhood field since 1995.

Originally as an administrative assistant, in a preschool and a long day care centre, managing all aspects of the day to day running of a children’s service. During this time I also worked as a nanny to a family with three children, twins aged 3 and their elder sister. In 1998 I took a position as a teaching assistant in a public school, working in the kindergarten classroom as well as on a 1:1 basis with older primary school children with a variety of specific, individual needs.

Enjoying working with children rather than in administration, I began assisting staff in both the preschool and long day care centre, filling in for them on their meal breaks, sick days and holidays.

In 2002 I decided to train in early childhood education and spent two years full-time at Randwick TAFE studying for my Diploma in Community Services (Chn's Services). I graduated with full distinctions and was fortunate to be awarded the TAFE Achievement Award.

Throughout the past 30 years I have worked for KU Children's Services and the Department of School Education as well as in centres operated by the University of NSW and Uniting Care. I have participated in policy development, draft legislation, preschool curriculum frameworks and the introduction of the Accreditation process. I have set up community play sessions as part of the Disadvantage Areas Program and spent time supervising them.  During my first two years of Family Day Care I played an active part in the management of RSSFDC co-ordination unit and was one of the licensees.

I feel it is important to enhance and extend my skills and knowledge of early childhood and have taken advantage of every opportunity, including in-service courses such as Behaviour Guidance, Augmentative Communication, Inclusion and Support, Early Literacy, EYLF, Health & Nutrition for Children, Aboriginal Health and Communication, Reflective Practices, Environmental Practices & Sustainability, Music for Children with Specific Needs, Maths Concepts in Early Childhood, Delivering STEM and Bush School programs.

I hold a current First Aid certificate, (CPR, Asthma, Anaphylaxis), am experienced in child protection matters and in all aspects of children's development, safety and nutrition. I also hold an Australia wide police check and Working with Children Clearance.
